After having Dole whip at the plantation in Hawaii, nothing can compare. HOWEVER, when you move from CA which only even had it in Santa Cruz, Disneyland, and more recently SF (after I moved of course), this is the next best thing and it is so close. I will be frequenting this place regularly. And I do mean like once or twice a week.

Drove past this place the other day and there was a huge line so today was the day to try Jim's! The twist of vanilla and chocolate has a nice smooth texture and it's just as good as your average soft serve. While the vanilla custard had good flavor, the texture was off. It had tiny pieces of the egg in the custard so it wasn't a nice smooth texture. Overall, their soft serve and custard is good. I would come back if I'm too lazy to drive all the way to Erma's.

This place is hit or miss. The ice cream is good, but my main complaint is with the staff. Sometimes the staff is friendly, others they clearly have better things to do. One time they served my fiancee a flurry that immediately started dripping all over her hand. They did not give adequate napkins to go with it, and when we went to them and basically asked for help they didn't seem to care. Another time the girl taking our order was resting her head on her arm and was seemingly trying to pay us as little attention as possible.

Ice cream treats for my dogs as well as me??? I'm sold! Humans love the malts and arctics.... But I drove 20 minutes here for my dogs!

I love this place! You can substitute froyo for ice cream in your flurries making it an almost healthy snack. The staff is friendly, lots of picnic tables, and it is very clean. They also have lots of fun flavors and creations. Plus, they have puppy treats for dogs.

Come on, it's Jim's... Drove past it multiple times and then decided to give it a shot. It is simple, clean, and the staff is friendly. It's fun to go to and who doesn't want to treat themselves every once in awhile... Go ahead, put a smile on your face and a cone in your hand.

I don't understand all the hype. Had a milkshake today and it was nothing special. Somewhat overpriced for the size too. I mean the milkshake was not bad, but it was also not something to write home about. I don't see myself coming back here. The person who took my order seemed nice, I had fast service. I just was not won over by the ice cream.

Such a cute neighborhood ice cream stand. I'm from St. Louis where there's lots of top notch custard and ice cream around so only 3 stars for me....but its better than nothing! For soft serve, it's probably as good as it gets! Good size selection and they provide clean tables outside. Make sure you check in on yelp for a 25% discount! I wouldn't mind stopping back to support the neighborhood business!

Fast and friendly staff, great soft serve, large green space next door with lots of picnic tables, and a life-size Superman figure standing in a phone booth.

I love this place. It's not really even about the ice cream. Ice cream and other treats are good of course, but the whole experience is what we love... This place really is the neighborhood hang out. From kids getting done with sports games, to couples in their 80s. It's such a neat compilation of people. Service is good, staff is primarily young persons... But they are very friendly and work hard. We visit nearly every week :)

I love Jim's! We probably go at least once a week in the summer. The staff is so friendly and nice. They always offer dog treats for our dog. You never have to wait too long for them to complete your order. I'd rather go to Jim's than a chain any day! I think I'm going to go now and get a cookies and cream and cookie dough flurry!

Jims is only open seasonly, but is a great place to stop if you are walking around Royal Oak. They have "flurries" which are better versions of Dairy Queens blizzards or mcdonalds mcflurries. Serving sizes are generous and there are picnic tables that you can sit down and eat your frosty treat at.

I made it a personal goal of mine to visit multiple ice cream parlors this summer, and if this is any indication of how this summer is going to go, I'm stoked! I mean come on, I just got a tasty ice cream in the same spot where Superman hangs out. Cruising around the Royal Oak area we decided to check one off the list and visit Jim's Frostie Treats. It's so obvious when pulling up that this is a local favorite for ice cream. How can I tell? Well for starters the phone booth where Clark becomes a super hero is free of graffiti and the glass was still in one piece. The picnic tables we sat on were aged but were free of carvings and your usual tagging. The people that worked the stand were hospitable & the ice cream was reasonably priced. We ordered a couple medium cones with smiley faces for the kids and had a ball watching them trying to lick the ice cream faster then it melted on this beautiful spring day. The wife & I got blizzards, holy crap they were big. I think we payed less then 10 dollars for four treats and I can certainly understand why Jim's has had such success. I think I'm gonna leave Jim's Frostie Treats on the list and see what else is good here this summer. So unless your from Planet Krypton you have no reason not to come check out Jim's for yourself.

Any individually owned ice cream stand that serves custard gets an automatic five-star rating in my book. Jim's is no exception.

I've been here several times this summer for the orange freeze. My husband's coworker recommended it and now I'm recommending it to others. The orange freeze it a slushy with soft serve ice cream mixed in...absolutely delicious. Will definitely keep coming back.

I'm always a sucker for an ice cream hut, and Jim's is no different. Tons of options that almost induce a panic when it comes time to order. They're certainly giving DQ a run for their money with the variety of dips they offer. Friendly staff that even dress up as super heroes. Also, evidently if you come dressed as a super hero you receive 50% of your order.

Hands down best ice cream stand in royal oak! I have tried it all, malts, shakes, freezes, ice cream cones. All excellent and fair prices! I did notice Jim's opened up a little earlier this year, thanks for that!!

YUM! OK, I have to admit it....if given the chance (and the promise of a non-expanding ass) I would survive solely on ice cream. Jim's Frostie Treats would definitely be one of my go-to places for my unrealistic ice cream diet. I was recently introduced to this place, but, let me tell you, I am now obsessed. Nothing is that much different from any other walk-up ice cream place (such as Silver Dairy or DQ), but something about the ice cream here makes it stand out for me. The ice cream is super creamy, light, and so so so refreshing. Give me my standard choc/vanilla twist chocolate dipped cone and I am a happy gal! They have an extensive menu of flurries, sundaes and other combinations, all of which sound mouth watering (and ass-expanding). One day I will have to venture away from my staple to try something off their long list of frosty temptations. They also serve frozen yogurt and Dole-whip if ice cream isn't your thing. Haven't tried the fro-yo but the Dole-whip is super tasty, especially the pineapple flavor. Hit up the ATM before indulging, as they are only cash only. Oh, and check out the superman phone booth right in front, it will definitely make you smile.

Royal Oak's Jim's was always my excuse to leave work and enjoy some of the fantastic weather during Michigan summer months. I would grab a bunch of kids from work and walk down to grab shakes, ice cream cones, and sundaes. This ice cream shack (literally) located on 11 mile across from Taco Bell is a great place to grab a quick, tasty and inexpensive ice cream treat during the summer, as they close for the fall and winter. Jim's offers exceptionally tasty treats and picnic tables to lounge on, no inside seating. I recommend the chocolate milk shakes, thick with the perfect balance of creaminess and chocolate flavor. But they also offer other classics like malts, banana splits, and soft serve cones. So, if you've gotta sweet tooth go to Jim's to satisfy your needs, ice cream needs that is.

Jim's is my favorite place to get my ice cream fix in the Royal Oak area and they have been around forever. My grandparents used to take my sister and me there when we were kids. There are a gazillion sundae choices and the flavors for blizzards (I forget what they call them) are plentiful and delicious. I love to get the banana pudding one, and add peanut butter cups to it...yumm.

My favorite place for ice cream. The best in the area, great prices and nice staff. Check out the facebook specials in the summer.

Awesome "DQ" style ice cream. Ordering can be a bit chaotic, but is always worth it.

Now I can feel just as fit as my buff friends because starting in April, I can honestly say I spend a lot of time at Jim's, too. I'm always trying something new, so I can't recommend any one specific treat. The hot fudge...ZOMG. So good. One of my favorite things about Jim's, though, is the sign. I'd like to buy the designer a waffle cone.Oh, and if you show up to this joint in the fall, you have to order a pumpkin-cheesecake flurry. Oh em gee.
